A Celebration of Life

Sylvia’s life exemplified a woman committed to the Lord Jesus Christ. Her love of life, sport, family and friends was infectious.

She was born in Dublin, Ireland. In 1961, after her 21st birthday, she moved to Germany.  And in 1963 she met John Bresnik at the Army snack bar in Augsburg.  Within days of meeting Sylvia, John told his friend he was sure he was going to marry her.  They were married on June 12, 1965 in California, and had five children.

Sylvia was passionate about fitness, sport and friendly competition.  She learned to swim in one lesson, played tennis for years, and eventually turned her attention to triathlons. She regularly ran marathons across San Diego, London, Los Angeles, and Dublin. She also loved swimming, hiking, running, and biking, and anything that tested her limits.  She conquered Mount Whitney twice and braved the dangers of Half Dome – twice!

Sylvia balanced energy with rest, wisdom with practicality, courage with humility, contemplation with fun, laughter with compassion, and believed that moderation was the key to life.

She lived for her grandchildren, a good book, time with her friends and family, and an evening of Jeopardy with John and a glass of red wine – or two.

If you knew Sylvia, Jesus was nearby.
